History
The history of Heaven's Gate is filled with both blessed times, and dark times-- as with any church. Our beliefs were around on this Earth for thousands of years, it was simply put into an official church by Marshall Applewhite in the 1970s. Marshall Applewhite started with the intentions of helping himself better understand this world and life in all the stars above; however, he became overly obsessed with the belief in the afterlife (as did many of his close followers), 39 people in all voluntarily took their own lives to see the afterlife first hand. We at Heaven's Gate condemn this behavior to the utmost levels; nothing justifies the actions taken by these individuals. Although we wish it would not have turned out this way, sadly it did, and it has left only memories of Heaven's Gate for many years-- until 2008 when it was re-created by an incredible visionary Saul Memphis. Recreating the image of Heaven's Gate was not easy, but our message has began paying off as we receive more members each year.
